Just a little side note here about the Winkley Swinging Bridge. I'm doing this site for my
mother (Linda Warwick) and this particular image really pulls at my heart strings. As a
youngster back in Arkansas, I spent a lot of time at that bridge. Walking out onto those
wooden planks really took you back to another place in time. Even when the water on the
Little Red River was running low, it would still ripple and sing to you up on that bridge.
A favorite past time of the local kids was to get on the suspension bridge and rock back and
forth until we got the bridge to start swinging from side to side. It was SO scary some times!
That never stopped us, though, or any of the other thousands of people over time that used to
swing that bridge. A tragedy in 1989 caused the bridge to collapse, taking a piece of history
with it.
